Since 2005, the Codex Contact Point in Greece is hosted by Hellenic Food Authority. The mission of National Codex Contact Point (NCCP) is the coordination of activities aiming at developing national positions in view of Codex Committee meetings.
The Hellenic Food Authority, in order to fulfil its mission strives to ensure unimpeded dissemination of information in a timely manner to all interested parties. Hellenic Food Authority takes into account the views of other national authorities, consumers, food industry, professional and scientific bodies and academia.
The main objectives of the NCCP are:
* To develop a network for the effective dissemination of information
* To inform all interested parties at national level in a timely manner
* To promote open public consultation in a transparent way
* To coordinate the formulation of national positions through electronic consultation and/or national Codex pre-meetings
The NCCP has the following responsibilities:
* Acts as the link between the Codex Secretariat and stakeholders at national level;
* Develops a network for the dissemination of information in order to coordinate all relevant Codex activities within Greece;
* Receives all Codex final texts (standards, codes of practice, guidelines and other advisory texts) and working documents of Codex sessions and ensure that they are circulated to those concerned within Greece;
* Promotes public consultation to facilitate the adoption of national position
* Coordinates national representation and the procedure for developing national position
* Represents Greece on certain occasions at EU Council coordination and Codex Committee meetings
* Sends comments on Codex documents or proposals to the appropriate Codex instruments within the specified deadlines;
* Maintains a library of Codex final texts
* Promotes Codex activities in Greece
